I would like to hear your thoughts on new social media paradigm

Hey, Steemers!

i've recently become really disappointed with facebook which I use a lot. I am a performer/teacher and am constantly letting people know about events I run (classes, jams and shows). Over the years facebook has been incredibly useful for me for letting people know about events I put on. And so I've spent a lot of time and energy building up my networks, I guess the payoff being that facebook got all my data. I felt that was a fair swap. But now facebook has limited the number of people I can invite to an event to 50. That was a pretty massive blow for me. In addition to that I feel like they are limiting my reach to my friends list so only a handful of my friends see what I'm up to. Obviously they're wanting me to buy ads. I guess what I've come to realise was that years ago when I started using facebook and found it so helpful was that hidden in there was a HOOK that is now firmly skewered through my lip.

Well done facebook. You got me.

So how do I get that hook out and start building my network again? That is what has brought me here, to Steem. It sounds like a great idea.

What I notice as a newbie coming here for the first time is that it is setup more like a reddit or a feed than a facebook. If people want to start taking more control of their social media platform it will need to be widely adopted. Obviously the strength of a social media site is how many people are using it. At the moment most people use facebook. Remember I come from a non-tech world. If I want to let people know about an acroyoga class that I'm running facebook is where my audience is at.

So how can we turn Steem into facebook?

How can we take ownership of our social media?

Are there projects that will change the format/page layout of Steem? Pictures are so important in social media but it seems that Steem has little visual content.

Or will it be possible to combine platforms? Just like you tweet/instagram something and it comes up in facebook could we do the same with Steem? Can you guys see a roadmap of how Steem could become HUGE?

I would love to hear people's thought
