Science itself has a relationship with the Scripture. We will be considering the science of our brain and how to renew our minds, most especially with God's Word. This post is an invitation to live healthily because right believing produces right living.
THE EFFECT OF OUR THOUGHT
A mentor of mine 'will say:
Your thoughts form your attitude, that is, your state of mind, and it's your attitude that determines much of the quality of your life, not your DNA. Your thoughts impacts your spirit, your soul and your body.
THE SOUL OF MAN
Source
Every human being is a spirit that has a soul and lives in a body. For this reason, man is referred to as a tripartite being.
The soul of man consists of three parts:
The mind or intellect (the thinker/knower)
The will (the chooser/decider)
The emotion (the feeler)
These differentiates the spirit (the part through which we connect and commune with God) from the soul (intellect, will and emotion). The body is just a container for inhabitation.
THE PLACE OF THE MIND
This aspect introduces us into the main aspect of this content.
Most Christians focus more on developing the spirit and neglect the place of the mind (an aspect of the soul).
The scripture says that as a man thinkeths in his heart, so he is. Therefore, we become who we think we are. What we think of constantly, with time, becomes a reality. Law of attraction.
THE EYES OF OUR MIND
Source
The unseen realm births the seen. Everything seen come from what is unseen. Inability to see isn't an evidence of inexistence.
We cannot rise above our thoughts, neither can we grow beyond the horizon of our vision.
No wonder, when Paul was writing to the people of Ephesus in Ephesians 1:18, he included "... that the eyes of your understanding might be enlightened...".
THE CHEMISTRY OF OUR BRAIN
Our thoughts hugely affects the chemistry of our brain and our body in general.
Science has proven that thinking over something often and frequently can cause ones brain to release neurotransmitters, a chemical messenger that allows the brain to
communicate or interact with different parts of itself and
the nervous system.
Negative thoughts, worry, complaining, feeling of condemnation and guilt... alters our mental wellness, leaves us depressed and will in turn, pose great danger to our physical lives, depriving us of adequate rest and drains our energy.
FROM INPUT TO OUTPUT
In computer, when we input data with the input devices, the output displays the outcome. For instance, the result of arithmetic inputs like 2 + 2 is being displayed on the screen (an output device).
In the same manner, thoughts are inputs while your life is the output. Your life is like a mirror of your thoughts. When you think negatively, you'll definitely act negatively.
Your output is determined by your input. Every design that that materializes in the physical must have first been conceptualized as as a concept.
THOUGHTS ARE SEEDS
Since mango seed cannot produce orange fruit, so also, the kind of thoughts determines the kind of fruits you bear.
Sow good thoughts despite the odds, good life becomes the result.
RENEW YOUR MIND AND SWITCH ON YOUR
Source
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
It's the will of God for us to have a sound mind and for our soul to prosper. Your mind is like a switch, and what you think with it changes your brain and body functions. Your identity is defined in your mind, your perception about yourself. The more positive we think, the happier we are, the happier we are, the healthier we become.
THE WORD OF GOD
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The greatest lubricant for the soul is the Word of God. It is best remedy for renewal of the mind. We as Christians must feed on the Word daily to strengthen our faith.
The Bible says that faith comes by hearing, not just hearing, but hearing by the Word of God. So also, fear comes by hearing negative words, words that are not of God. The kind of things we see, hear, etc influences our thoughts in a way. We must guide these areas since they are channels.
Right believing produces right living. Ephesians Chapter 4 verse 23 says that you must be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
We are called to renew our minds with God's Word, renewal of the Holy Ghost in us and put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of God that created us (Colossians 3: 10).
The scripture admonishes us to abandon the old man and walk in the newness of life. A life in which our thoughts are purified and detoxified.
THE DETOXICANT
We must learn to put our dark past behind and focus on the brighter future.
Philippians 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.
Guide your thoughts and let your words be seasoned with grace. Fear breeds physical and chemical responses which are negative.
The best way of detoxifying your brain is being conscious of your thought life.
2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
You have to recognize that thoughts are tangible and creates matter. They are results of what we read, hear, see, feel and experience. If affects our attitude and the decisions we make.
Examine your awareness and analyze your thought. Steer clear of toxic thinking.
In summary, the quality of our thoughts influences our decisions, affects the engineering of our brain, and determines the resultant quality of our entire well being - spirit, soul and body.
Right living is a result of right believing.
