Battle analysis: Earthquake destroy a Yodin EN-US/PT-BR

Yodin Earthquake.gif

Introduction

It's not the first time I've commented on 02 summoners that stand out even at level 01, Yodin Zaku and Scarred Llama Mage (Greengineer, 2022-a, 2022-b, 2022-c). They are extremely powerful and at times can ignore game rules like Earthquake and Noxious Fumes.

When I see someone with many battles with one of these 02 summoners in the history, I always try to mount a counterattack to eliminate their advantages. I recently found a Yodin user in a situation where I couldn't use my most natural counterattack, which is the use of summoner Lir Deepswimmere (Greengineer, 2022-a), as the Water Splinter was not available. Also the game had Earthquake and I could not neutralize the damage caused by this rule using the summoner Brighton Bloom (Greengineer, 2022-d), as the Dragon Splinter was also unavailable.

But before commenting on the battle, let's analyze Summoner Yodin Zaku and understand why he has so much power:

  • +1 Ranged Attack - With this buff it increases the firepower of monsters with ranged attack.

  • +1 HP - This buff increases one HP of each monster on the field, increasing the survivability of monsters with high attack and low HP.

  • Blast - It is the most powerful buff of this summoner, it makes all monster attacks hit at least 02 opponents, being able to hit 03 if Snipe or Opportunity skills are in play.

The combination of these 03 buffs make this card form an unbeatable team even at level 1 using low level monsters. Unlike Llama (Greengineer, 2022-b), Yodin is favored in higher MP matches.

The strategy before battle

The match featured the aforementioned Earthquake and the Fog of War, had 36 MP available and only Fire, Life and Death Splinters could be used. Due to my opponent's history full of Yodin, there was a high probability that he would come full damage aiming to end the match before Earthquake eliminated his team.

Not being able to adopt the same strategy, i had to search among the available Splinters that had more monsters with the flying skill. Analyzing it, I found that Splinter Life was the best candidate. Another point was that knowing my opponent could come with Yodin, I would need a line of defense that could delay the devastation caused by his high firepower until Earthquake did the work of eliminating his monsters. Since I had Fog of War active I wouldn't have to worry about Sneak and Snipe skills, meaning most of the damage would hit the first two positions.

Thus, as primary and secondary tanks I selected the Silvershield Paladin and the Chaos Knight, both with the Shield skill. With the Flying skill I chose Uriel The Purifier, Adelade Brightwing and with the remaining 04 MP I could only select the Thunderbird, leaving 01 MP that I used to put the Gargoya Scrapper on the front line in order to delay at least 02 hits of my opponent, as I combined these monsters with Summoner Lorna Shine who provided Divine Shield to everyone.

Once the cards were selected, I was hoping that my enemy would come with the Yodin without worrying about Earthquake, which is what happened:

The battle

My opponent came with Yodin Zaku, putting Cerberus as a main tank, Fineas Rage as a secondary tank, and placing the following monsters as ranged artillery: Fire Demon, Fire Beetle, Ferexia General, and Pyromaniac. Three of these monsters had the Sneak or Snipe abilities, but due to the Fog of War rule they couldn't use these skills.

None of my opponent's monsters had the Flying ability, so they were all at the mercy of Earthquake's damage.

After the first round I lost my Gargoya Scrapper but I still had my 2 tanks alive. Adelade recovered part of my Silvershield Knight's shield and the first wave of Earthquake was about to start.

2 Round Flying.png

At the end of the second round I lost my 02 tanks and my enemy lost his Cerberus with the combination of Earthquake damage with my Thunderbird attack. My Uriel missed the concentrated attack on Fineas Rage, but his Flying skill allowed a miss from the Fire Beetle's attack.

3 Round Flying.png

In the third round, my Uriel's Flying ability made my opponent lose 2 more attacks, allowing my Adelade to survive. A last wave of Eathquake would start and only one enemy monster had enough HP to survive it.

4 Round Flying.png

In the last round the Fire Demon couldn't attack so there was only the coup de grace, which was delivered by the Thunderbird.

4 11-12 Round Flying.png

While the missed attacks helped keep more allies alive until the end of the match, my Uriel had enough HP to hold out until Earthquake did all the work of eliminating my enemies.

I hope you enjoyed this strategy of countering Yodin by taking advantage of the presence of the Earthquake rule. Follow the battle link if you want to follow in detail: Greengineer (2022-e).

A batalha

2 Round Flying.png
