Anthoine Hubert aged 22 has died after a crash during th Belgium Grand Prix feature race. The FIA announced, saturday evening, that Hubert after being involved in a high-speed accident had succumbed to his injuries at Spa-Francorchamps.
The formula two driver Hubert who gone off on the exit of Eau Roge and Radillon and suffered a great impact with the outside tyre barrier. He was struck by the entry of Juan Manuel Correa, a Sauber Junior Team, after attempted to avoid Giuliano alesi which cause him in much more accident.
Juan Manuela Correa is now in a stable condition and is being treated at the CHU Liege Hospital according to the FIA
“The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile [FIA] regrets to advise that a serious incident involving cars #12 [Correa], #19 [Hubert] and #20 [Alesi] occurred at 17:07 CET on 31/08/19 as a part of the FIA Formula Two Sprint Race at Spa-Francorchamps, round 17 of the season.
“The scene was immediately attended by emergency and medical crews, and all drivers were taken to the medical centre.
“As a result of the incident, the FIA regrets to inform that the driver of car #19, Antoine Hubert [FRA], succumbed to his injuries, and passed away at 18:35 CET.
“The driver of car #12, Juan-Manuel Correa (USA), is in a stable condition and is being treated at the CHU Liege hospital. More information on his condition will be provided when it becomes available.
“The driver of car #20 Giuliano Alesi (FRA) was checked and declared fit at the medical centre.
“The FIA is providing support to the event organisers and the relevant authorities, and has commenced an investigation into the incident.”
Correa and Hubert's collision has caused great damage to both cars. The collision make Correa going airborne and landed upside down exposing the driver's feet and leaving Correa trapped in the cockpit as yhe the broke away. On the other hand, Hubert's car broke into two.
Anthoine Hubert started karting at the age of 12 and began his single-seater career in 2013. Hubert competed and won the title in the French F4 Championship that year that progressed through Formula Renault, Formula 3 and GP3 and in this year’s Formula Two championship with BWT Arden.
On behalf the french manufacturer, Cyril Abiteboul issued a statement:
“Our thoughts are with Anthoine’s friends and family at this tragic time,”
“Anthoine was a bright young man. His performance and conduct on and off track was that of a true gentleman and it was a pleasure and honour to have had him within our Academy.
“He will be sorely missed by our teams at Enstone and Viry. His spirit will remain with the team and we will race in his memory.”
Lewis Hamilton wrote on instagram:
“This is devastating. God rest your soul Anthoine. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family today,”
“If a single one of you watching and enjoying this sport think for a second what we do is safe your [sic] hugely mistaken. All these drivers put their life on the line when they hit the track and people need to appreciate that in a serious way because it is not appreciated enough.
“Not from the fans nor some of the people actually working in the sport. Anthoine is a hero as far as I’m concerned, for taking the risk he did to chase his dreams. I’m so sad that this has happened. Let’s lift him up and remember him. Rest in peace brother.”
