SPORTSTEEM World Series Recap

In one of the most exciting World Series ever played, the Astros came out on top after they took Game 7 in Los Angeles. McCullers gutted through the first couple innings and unsung hero Charlie Morton took them home down the stretch, shutting down a potent Dodgers lineup to lock up Houston’s first World Series in over 50 years. It’s a tough pill to swallow for the Dodgers who won 104 games and had the best record in baseball. Dodgers fans will look back at Game 5 and think what might’ve been – Kershaw was on the mound with a 4-run lead and just couldn’t keep the Astros off the board. He tried (valiantly) to redeem himself in Game 7 – pitching 4 scoreless frames out of the pen – but it wasn’t enough.

Darvish will be remembered as a villain in L.A. Andrew Friedman brought him in midseason for games just like this and in 2 World Series starts he failed to get out of the second inning both times. George Springer, on the other hand, was red-hot after striking out 4 times in Game 1. And wunderkid Carlos Correa capped off the night by proposing to his girlfriend on live television. A great night for the Astros – less so for the 50,000 Dodger fans that ponied up a lot of dough to see their team fall flat in the last game of the season. Both teams are stacked with young talent and should be back in the mix next year – Las Vegas has installed the Dodgers are early favorites (5-1) with the Astros and Indians (6-1) close behind.
