The Broncos are gonna be in trouble for a while.

First of all, I'm going to admit that I'm one of the many people who was wrong in thinking that the Broncos were effectively a quarterback away from being competitive. At least, it looks that way.

That said, I think that there are certain things that we can start to infer five games in.

It's pretty clear that Russel Wilson was having some serious spats with Pete Carroll. I do think that Russ is likely a much better person than Carroll; but, Carroll won the Super Bowl with a young, inexperienced Russell Wilson, a great defense, and a strong running game. "Let Russ cook." turned out to be a flash in the pan. Yeah, we were talking unanimous MVP for Russ in 2020 until defenses figured him out. Carroll wanted to run the ball again and Russ wasn't happy about it.

The Seahawks were clearly in a situation where they had to choose between Russ and Carroll; and, they made the right choice. Carroll knew Russ's strengths and weaknesses and used him accordingly. Russ wants to be seen as a Rodgers, or a Brady, or a Mahomes, or an Allen. He's not on the same level as those guys. He's not the kind of quarterback that can carry a team on his shoulders.

Still, the biggest problem that could hang over the Broncos for another year or more might be Nathanial Hackett. It's rather likely that Hackett doesn't have the personality to keep Russ in check. It doesn't help that Hackett has made some awful, dumb decisions this season; but, Russ might push him into making more dumb decisions -- like passing on fourth and one at the end of overtime rather than running the ball or kicking a field goal.
