Splinterlands - New Player Boost

What Is New Player Boost?

New player boost is a new initiative I'm starting in order to help new players get started, enjoy the game more, and ultimately become more committed to the game.

How Does New Player Boost Work?

The concept for this new player boost is simple:

  1. Players contribute to a boost pool on a seasonal basis
  2. A group of new players are selected for each boost pool
  3. Selected new players earn from the boost pool over the course of the season

What Can I Contribute To The Boost Pool?

Anything that you believe would be helpful as a new player can be added to the boost pool. Most common examples of contributions are:

  • DEC
  • Cards
  • Card Delegations
  • Staked SPS Delegation
  • SPS Reward Delegation

Anyone can contribute to the boost pool. It is completely up to you on when or what you may want to contribute at any given time.

How Do I Contribute?

For each new player boost, I will publish a post that states the boost is currently active. In the post, it will detail the exact contributions that will be accepted.

To start, contributions will go directly to my holding account - mr-monopoly. This account is completely empty and owned entirely by me.

Contributions that are transferrable (DEC & cards) should all be sent to this empty account.

Contributions that aren't transferrable (SPS staked delegations & SPS reward delegations) will be kept on the contributor's account until the boost rewards are distributed. I will notify what account these contributions should be made too, and it will be the contributor's responsibility to make the contribution.

No matter which contribution you make, you will need to notify myself so I can record it before the boost distribution. Instructions on how to notify me will be outlined on the PeakD post for that specific new player boost.

How Do New Players Sign-Up?

When a new player boost is published, there will be a small timeframe for new players to sign-up and announce that they would like to be included in the boost. This process will most likely start out by requiring the new player to simply comment on the new player boost post.

Players may recommend certain new players, but the new player must comment on the post themselves otherwise they won't be added to the list to be selected.

What Qualifies As A New Player?

The qualifications for a new player are going to be vague to start, but will be defined as the first couple of boosts are completed. There is a lot of unknown in terms of who will be trying to take part in these boosts and I don't want to make any strict qualifications right off the bat.

However, please note that I will be very strict on certain aspects such as:

  • New player accounts must not be associated with any other player
  • New player accounts must have been created within 0-6 months of the boost activation
  • New player accounts must be active (can't be sitting inactive for a period of time)

For every new player that signs-up, I will be vetting out thoroughly in order to ensure that the boost rewards are sent to an actual new player that will benefit from the boost.

How Are New Players Selected?

After vetting out all the new players that are signed up, I will randomly select between 1-5 new players to receive the boost rewards.

After new players are selected, the boost rewards will be randomly selected and assigned to each new player selected. The attempt will be to make the reward distribution as evenly possible.

My Vision For Future Boosts

Depending on how well received these new player boosts are, I'd love to have different types of boosts in the future.

The new player boosts will always have the goal of helping new players, but the type of boosts could change. For example, a new player boost for Land would be a great opportunity to help onboard any player that isn't currently holding/working Land.

I'm open for any other types of boosts that the community would like to propose in the future as well!

Why Am I Doing This?

I started playing Splinterlands in June 2021. When I started, there was a very similar new player boost program being hosted by @unitqm. I fortunately was chosen as one of the accounts for the boost program at that time and received a handful of cards and DEC.

After receiving these free rewards as a new player, I became so much more interested in the game and the community. The rest of my story is history as I've been playing every day since joining, I have almost a maxed version of every single card in the game, and I own ~2200 Land plots.

We are currently in some uncertain times with the game, but I've enjoyed playing Splinterlands every
day and if there is any chance in helping grow the game, I'd like to take that opportunity.
