Social media has the power to connect people from around the world and do a lot of good. But there’s no denying that there’s also a lot of negativity out there on the Web. When a person is hidden behind a screen, people often say things that they would never say to someone’s face. It’s also a whole lot easier for certain posts to be misconstrued on social media or for arguments to escalate more quickly.
What is a troll?
Hmmm, some of you may not be familiar with the term "trolls." So lets discuss what is a social media troll. Unlike the trolls of fairy tales, trolls on social media lurk not in caves or under bridges, but out in the open where they have the best chance of attracting an audience. A troll is someone who deliberately provokes others online, typically through inflammatory, offensive, or provocative comments. Their intent is to upset others and sometimes even send threats via social media while they are probably at home miserable with nothing better to do.
Indeed, the internet is full of people who want to share their opinions. There is nothing wrong with sharing your thoughts on a topic, I love constructive debates and feedback . What I do not appreciate is when people are trying to be disrespectful or comment unnecessary content under a positive post. Trolls will say things like "I can share my opinion" or "you put it out there so." OBVIOUSLY when people post on social media they are putting a certain topic "out there" however by putting something "out there" it doesn't mean you should use that content to be nasty.
You may be wondering where can Trolls be found?
Trolls can be found on pretty much every platform on the internet that allows commenting or interaction of some variety. My best advise to dealing with trolls is to simply ignore their meaningless comments. If ignored they are most likely to just go away. However if you feed into it, they will rant on and on and say things to try to anger you. You can look at my last post and see a troll I recently dealt with on here! He/she even sent pictures of a building saying they have found where I reside. These people are just cyber bullies. It takes a lot of self-control to ignore these kind of people.
So far I really like steemit but I think that as a user friendly platform there should be some way to block annoying users! Who else agrees?
