Harmless Snakes of South Africa

Common Wolf Snake ( Lycophidion capense)
100_1179.JPG
A harmless snake often found under stones or in termite hills.
They are small snakes growing to a maximum length of about 60 cm.
They get their name from their large front teeth which help them catch their prey of skinks in confined places.
I have caught dozens of these snakes by just simply picking them up and have never been bitten.
They do not have venom.
However a word of caution to the inexperienced snake catchers, there is a dangerous snake that looks similar - the Stelito Snake!
