Babagon Dam with Mount Kinabalu

Babagon Dam with our proud mount Kinabalu shot from a plane 12,000 feet high. The RM17 million dam is constructed across Babagon River, a tributary of the Moyog River in Penampang, Sabah.

  • Total water storage capacity: 23, 780 Million Litres
  • Total catchment area 30km2
  • Flooded area at full supply water level 1.0km2
  • Full supply water level RL 130.5m AMSL
  • Minimum operating level RL 86M AMSL
  • Embankment concrete slab is 200mm thick, 72m high and 30m long at the top

In the event of heavy storm, the embankment is protected by an 84m long crest concrete spillway located on the left hand abutment of the dam which will permit flood water to flow without endangering the embankment.

The outlet tower has rectangular opening of the side which permit the raw water to flow by gravity from the dam to Moyog water treatment plant through a 7km long concrete lined mild steel pipeline measuring 1150 mm in diameter
