Scientists at the University of Ottawa have determined that the Marab virus, known as MG1, is an effective fighter with HIV. This is noted on Eurekalert ! Experts expect that this discovery will help in the future to create medicines against the virus of immunodeficiency.
Admission of antiretroviral drugs helps to keep HIV under relative control. However, this does not make it possible to kill the virus.
At the same time, MG1 attacks infected cells, reducing their number. It was not possible to completely overcome the infection during the experiment, however MG1 was able to reduce its presence.
Scientists have not yet explained the reasons for the aggression of the Marab virus against HIV-infected cells. This issue needs further study.
