33 Scientists Say Octopus May Have Came From Outer Space

octpous.jpg
There has been an explosion of articles all claiming that some 33 scientists have concluded that octopus may come from outer space. This is an outrageous claim with very little proof - but an interesting topic nonetheless.

So how could they come up with such a theory?

Well it starts with some of the seemingly strange abilities that octopus have. They have a staggering number of genomes compared to humans or any other animal on this planet for that matter. It has a large brain and very sophisticated nervous system. They are known to be highly intelligent and can open jar lids and escape from aquariums. It's flexible body and ability to camouflage itself as well as shape shift is another remarkable trait that seems almost unworldly. Some scientists say that they cannot locate the evolutionary trail of octopus, implying that perhaps it's because they arrived at later time and were not part of earth's evolutionary path.

How did they get here?

Did they arrive in some massive ship that landed in antarctica? Well - supposedly they would have arrived the same way that many believe that humans got here - through something called "panspermia" or seeded from space. Panspermia is the idea that life on earth came from outer space, hitching a ride on meteors and landing on earth where we eventually evolved into what we are today. Some believe that eggs may have come to earth from meteors and seeded the planet with octopi.

Descendants in Antarctic?

I personally don't believe it , but I think it's a fun to think about and honestly opens the doors to many other potential theories for example, there are many who claim that below the glaciers in Antarctica lie massive fresh water lakes over 2 miles below the ice that house sea creature we have yet to discover. Among those are a massive octopus / squid like being called " Organism 46B" that has 14 tentacles and supposedly has the ability to change the shape of its body to match it's prey, much like octopus camouflage themselves. There was a report that one of them mimicked the shape of a russian diver and got close enough to one of their researchers to kill him. There are also claims that it can paralyze its prey from as far away as 150 feet. There is no evidence that they have ever captured or photographed the creature.
