An extensive study found that two-thirds of those who tried cigarettes one-time became smokers daily, even for a temporary period.

The synthesis analysis, published in the Journal of Nicotine and Tobacco Research, was based on data from 215,000 people in eight surveys between 2000 and 2016, which were reported in the Global Health Data Exchange Program.

"This is the first time that the relationship between the smoking test and its transformation into a regular habit has been recorded in such massive data," said Peter Haggick of the University of London's Queen Mary College.

"We found that the rate of switching from a smoker for the first time to a daily smoker was surprisingly high, which confirms the importance of abstaining from testing cigarettes from the first moment," he said.

"The United Kingdom is experiencing a dramatic decline in the number of smokers currently, and this is consistent with the recent findings that only 19 percent of the 11 to 15 year olds have never tried smoking, so the good news is that we The right way."

In 2016, the proportion of smokers in Britain was 15.5 percent among adults, about 7.6 million people, compared to 19.9 percent in 2010, according to data from the British National Bureau of Statistics.
