Save the Bees in Our Area Journey Part 1

Save the Bees in Our Area Journey Part 1

CCO

This week I have written a post talking about the importance of honey bees on our agriculture and our environment. In the post it talked about the fact that pollinating bees are responsible for 80% of our food production, through pollination. However, due to over pesticide use and habitat destruction, colony failure is a real possibility. That would mean NO MORE HONEY BEES!!!!

My family and I have decided to do our part, to not just inform, but to SAVE THE BEES IN OUR AREA. We will be building a bee garden and providing a bee house. We want to encourage all pollinating bees to come live in our yard and stay through the winter.

Through my research I have found what you need to build a bee garden, we have our bee house chosen, now we are looking at getting a bee hive, to support them through the winter. The bee hive may have to wait until next year, we may not have it in the garden budget. The bee garden will not only feed the bees, but will encourage them to pollinate my garden, which I need for my pumpkins to grow :)

I will be posting our journey, and probably a lot of hiccups, of our family saving the pollinating bees in our area. I will be posting any information I find and tons of pics. I hope you will follow our journey; and not only that I hope you will join in and build a bee garden or just get some of the flowers they love to feed on :)

The link below is to the bee garden information I found and will be using:

This one has a map to tell you what flowers are right for your area:

and another

Here is the section of yard I am thinking of using for my bee garden box. Yes, it needs a lot of work :) A little bit of ground break up and smoothing, to have the box sit level and we will be good :)

Here are some flowers we are thinking for the bee garden.

I cannot wait to get planting!!!!

Thank you for reading and I hope you decide to take this journey with us :) If you have any questions, just ask. I would be happy to help :)
