Two months ago I started my journey towards getting monetised on X, formerly known as Twitter which I documented in a post. Today I will share my strategy with you, but before I go into that I would like to highlight some of the benefits of getting monetised on X.
For Hivers, this is a unique opportunity to make extra money outside the hive ecosystem which you can reinvest into the ecosystem. Imagine tens of thousands of dollars coming into the Hive ecosystem monthly due to our engagement on X, which should have a positive impact on the price of Hive.
Aside from making money, X is one of the most active and crypto-friendly Web 2 platforms in the world. This presents a unique opportunity to market Hive; form new relationships with other crypto enthusiasts and projects; and promote your content to a larger audience. In addition, Hive is currently running an onboarding campaign which will run for 12 months, this will create opportunities for users who have influence outside the ecosystem to earn extra money.
For non-hivers, getting monetised on X can serve as an extra cash inflow. Whatever amount you generate from your post can cover your internet bill or, if you are really good at it, fund your next big project. There are people making thousands of dollars from the platform monthly, so if you put in the work you can really make something tangible for yourself on the platform.
Now before I go into my strategy I would like to show you how my account has performed so far on X to validate my strategy.
Based on my chart, I became very active on X on the 8th of August and I have amassed a total of 4.5 million impressions (views), which is an incredible achievement for an account with less than 10,000 followers. I have not had to spam or join farming groups. My strategy has been very simple and I will share it with you shortly
So let's start with the basics
1. UPDATE YOUR PROFILE.
Having a decent profile page is the very first step in establishing your presence on any digital. Your profile page must reflect your interest and profession which gives visitors an idea of what your page is about, which also informs their decision to follow your account or not. So much care must go into creating a standard profile.
Above is a screenshot of my X profile. I have a profile picture--an NFT-- and a banner that signals my interest in crypto and the Hive blockchain. I specifically chose a Hive banner as an indirect way to promote the blockchain. It only takes an average person seeing the Hive Logo multiple times to trigger their curiosity. This is why I urge Hivers to use the Hive logo on their Web 2 pages.
To the Bio, it is important to keep things very simple. For my X bio, I have a list of titles which gives visitors an idea of what my page is about. Now, it is preferable if your account is niche-based, but I have a plethora of interests. You can also add a link to your website or Hive blog to funnel some of your visitors into the Hive ecosystem. It is also important that I mention how difficult it is to move people across platforms. So do not expect much traffic from Twitter to your blog or website.
I will also suggest you pin your more important post to your profile page. This can help generate clicks and impressions for your page. So for instance, if you have a business or blog you want to promote, you can create a short post (embed a video if possible) to promote it. All the aforementioned things help improve the quality and visual appeal of your profile page. Remember in the digital world, optics matters a lot.
2. GET 500 FOLLOWERS
One of the basic requirements to get monetised on X is that you have at least 500 followers. If you're new to the platform and have a small following, I recommend searching for mutual connections on X. For example, if you're a Hiver, it's best to look for other Hivers on X. This will help you expand your network and reach a wider audience.
The second step is to find small and active accounts in your niche to follow. They are most likely going to reciprocate. You can build a following slowly and organically over the course of 2-3 months, which is the amount of time you need to get 5 million impressions.
You can grow a lot faster if you attend and speak on spaces. With a blue badge, your account is prioritised and most space hosts will give you a chance to speak and share your knowledge with their community.
3. SUBSCRIBE TO THE X PREMIUM
In other to get monetised you need to subscribe to X Premium which costs about $ 8/5,000 naira. This comes with several features like the ability to create long-form content; edit post and improves your account visibility. It also signals that you are a person and not a bot.
4. GETTING 5 MILLION IMPRESSIONS IN 3 MONTHS.
You need an average of 1.7 million impressions monthly to monetise your X account. The easiest way to go about this is to become a reply guy. Prioritise responding to other people's posts. The X algorithm favours engagers and influencers. So spend less time creating unique content and more time engaging in meaningful conversations with other (popular) accounts.
My strategy is simple, I find the most active accounts in my preferred niches--football, crypto, pop culture, etc. and I respond to any trending topic they discuss, offering my unique perspective. I average between 50-100 replies a day which gives me on average, 70,000 impressions.
CONCLUSION
The templates in this post cut across other social platforms even Hive. The key to growth is engagement and with consistency you grow your influence on any platform which comes with a lot of benefits.
