The 1999 film The Bachelor is about a commitment-phobic man named Jimmie Shannon (Chris O'Donnell) who goes in search of a bride in order to inherit his grandfather's $100 million inheritance.
Jimmie has been dating his girlfriend, Anne Arden (Renée Zellweger), for three years, but he is hesitant to propose. However, when his grandfather dies and leaves him the family business on the condition that he be married by his 30th birthday, Jimmie is forced to take action.
Jimmie has only one day to find a bride, so he enlists the help of his friends and family. He tracks down Anne, who is now working in another city, but she refuses to marry him. He also tries his luck with a few other women, including a tough-as-nails cop and a melodramatic opera singer, but none of them are right for him.
Just as Jimmie is about to give up, he meets Buckley Dunst (Brooke Shields), a socialite who is desperate for money to save her family's fortune. Buckley agrees to marry Jimmie, but only because she is attracted to his wealth and power.
On the day of the wedding, Buckley learns the full conditions of Jimmie's inheritance: she must have children with him within five years, spend no more than one night apart per month, and stay married for at least ten years. Buckley is initially reluctant to agree, but she eventually relents.
As the marriage progresses, Jimmie and Buckley begin to develop real feelings for each other. They learn to compromise and work through their differences. In the end, they fall in love and live happily ever after.
The Bachelor is a lighthearted romantic comedy that explores the themes of love, marriage, and commitment. It is a funny and heartwarming film that has something to offer everyone.
