Hello Foodies,
How are you today ? I hope and pray, may happiness and health always be with us. This time, I'm back to participating in the Foodies Be Hive Community to share my stories and culinary experiences. I have one favorite quote, "There are always interesting stories, food related", let's continue to see my story this time.

Still about the story about my experience when visiting Kamu Market, one of the breakfast festival markets is 35 km from where I live which is located in Pantai Labu District – Deli Serdang Regency, this place is currently popular and visited by many people. At Kamu Market, I found lots of traditional culinary foods that we might rarely find in big cities.

Gudeg

One of the traditional foods that caught my attention is Gudeg. I only ever tasted gudeg twice in my life, first in Yogyakarta and second when I was in Bandung. I want to taste the gudeg that I found at Kamu Market Pantai Labu, and want to compare the original taste of warm to what I've tasted in Yogyakarta.

So, what is gudeg? everyone in Indonesia knows that Gudeg is a traditional food from Jogyakarta – Java Island. Gudeg is a traditional Javanese food made from young jackfruit cooked with coconut milk and brown sugar. Usually, warm eaten with rice with other side dishes.

Young Jackfruit and Traditional Culinary
If we talk about young jackfruit or gori, in many Indonesian ethnicities and cultures, young jackfruit is one of the favorite food ingredients that is often processed and cooked by local residents. Young jackfruit has a texture like meat, if cooked and seasoned properly it will give a very delicious taste even though processing young jackfruit is very troublesome because of the sap that is released from this fruit.

There are many variations of young jackfruit as a dish or cuisine in Indonesia. We can find food such as Tewel Soup, Jackfruit Bumbu Bali Soup, Jackfruit Anchovies Sambal, or Jackfruit Curry. As people who live on Sumatra Island, we can cook young jackfruit by making it into curry. The taste of jackfruit curry has a savory, salty and delicious taste. I also like the taste of the jackfruit curry from it. Jackfruit curry is often a side dish when eating rice. This food is eaten with fish, chicken or meat.

Javanese Gudeg vs Sumatran Gudeg
I ordered this gudeg at Kamu Market Pantai Labu, which sells for IDR 10K (0.65USD). One portion of this warm consists of rice, warm, scrambled tempeh, pieces of beef tripe. I can't wait to taste it and compare warm in Yogyakarta and warm in North Sumatra. Does it have the same taste?

Anyway, when I tasted warm in Yogyakarta, I couldn't enjoy the warm I bought there. The taste of gudeg in Yogyakarta is very, very sweet for me. I know, tastes and flavors from a place and culture will definitely vary. However, I can't enjoy rice eaten with a sweet taste. For me, rice should be enjoyed with something salty, spicy and savory.

I know,. The delicacy of a dish is very subjective, and highly dependent on culinary experience and culture. In terms of culture and tradition, Javanese cuisine has a sweet taste and in Sumatra it has a culinary taste that is spicy and salty.

What about Gudeg at Kamu Market? Uniquely, I can enjoy this gudeg. Gudeg from Pasar Kamu Market has been modified to suit the tastes of the Sumatran people who prefer savory and sweet flavors. The gudeg at Kamu Market still has a sweet taste, but not as sweet as the gudeg I tried in Yogyakarta.

The taste of this Gudeg is more delicious when I eat it with tempeh chili and also this beef tripe. Wow, I can't stop eating it. Moreover, this food is served in portions that are not too large (perhaps, adjusting the price), so it is perfect for breakfast this time.

So, what is the conclusion of my culinary journey this time? I learned about one thing. The deliciousness of a dish is very objective, and every culture has a specific taste of food that is different. That's all my story this time, see you next time.
