Skyward Journeys Over Enghien

You know those days when your lunch break turns into a mini adventure? Right, Well, that’s exactly what happened when I decided to take my Dji Mini 3 Pro for a spin over the picturesque town of Enghien (or Edingen if you're rolling with us, the Flemish). With my drone and a sandwich under my arm, I found myself diving into the rich history and stunning landscapes of this Belgian gem, all from a bird’s eye view.

The Historic Heartbeat of Enghien
Let’s get nerdy for a sec. Enghien is not just a pretty face; it’s a place where history oozes out of every street's corner. On the edge of the Walloon Brabant region, Enghien has roots that go all the way back to the Middle Ages. Its well-preserved buildings and lush greenery, this town effortlessly combines the charm of the past with the serenity of nature.

The Aerial Tour
As I threw my drone into the sky, I was immediately struck by the contrast between the quaint, compact town and the sprawling fields that stretch out beyond. The first image I shot shows a serene lake surrounded by verdant parkland, with a charming mix of historical and modern architecture. Seriously, can we talk about that lush green? It’s like nature’s own Instagram filter.

Then there’s the shot of the town itself, where the neat rows of red-tiled roofs and cobblestone streets evoke a sense of timelessness (the cobblestones still hurt my feet after walking the 100km btw, even when seeing them from 100m from above). Enghien isn’t just a town; it’s a living, breathing postcard.

Tres Chouette!
While I was busy getting these killer shots, I had a delightful encounter with a couple who must’ve had their first date sometime around the Renaissance. They were curious about what this guy with a buzzing gizmo was up to, so I gave them a sneak peek of the photos. Their reaction? "Tres chouette!"—which is French for "Super cool!" They were totally amazed at seeing their town from a new perspective, and honestly, their excitement made my day. It’s moments like these that remind you why you love what you do, and boy, do I love what I do!

The Crown Jewel: Enghien’s Church
One of my personal favorite shots has to be the one hovering over the magnificent Saint Nicholas Church. This Gothic beauty has been standing tall since the 13th century, and seeing it from above really puts into perspective how it dominates the skyline, and the market square, even from above. From this angle, you get a sense of how the town radiates outwards from this spiritual and architectural centerpiece. Plus, the parking lot layout around it? Pure geometric satisfaction.

Final Thoughts
Enghien is definitely not the first place that comes to mind when you think of epic drone photography spots, but that’s what makes it so special. It’s the hidden gems like this that offer the best surprises. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or just someone who appreciates a well-manicured lawn (because seriously, the park game in Enghien is strong), this town has something for you, and even without a drone, and just by foot, I think it is well worth a visit.

So, next time you’re passing through Walloon Brabant with a drone and a free hour, do yourself a favor and throw it to the skies above Enghien. You never know, you might just find a new favorite spot—or at least get a “tres chouette” or two from the locals.

Just saying...
