Expats on a Plane - Steemit Poetry Contest #11

Hello, steeming citizens of the world!

I think it's time I stop greeting everyone with "HAPPY NEW YEAR", am I right?

After a while, I've come back to poetry to partake in @terrycraft's world-famous Steemit Poetry Contest! This week, the theme is "Loneliness", and it's a topic I know all too well. As you may have guessed, my surroundings and general situation continue to be my main inspiration for writing poems. If it keeps happening I promise to stop mentioning it.

After all, isn't everyone the same?

Without further ado, enjoy my ballad to lost friends and great distances: Expats on a plane

Made with resources from Lemerg.

"It will be fine, we're globalized"
We part with tearful eyes.
The loneliness we feel will keep,
For many years, to rise.

A friend in Spain, a friend in France.
Those I hold dear are gone.
The place where we were born by chance,
Is still awaiting dawn.

I'm sitting on an airplane seat,
To Buenos Aires bound.
Of victory, a moment sweet.
At least I'll reach fair ground!

Afterword

Someone told me once that doing an afterword on such short posts was over the top. Well, over the top is exactly my style. I'd be the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance of poets if it was up to me, hah!

But if it isn't... then who's it up to?

Anyway, this poem carries my feelings regarding fleeing my country of Venezuela. I'd hardly be the first to do it, I've got friends all over the world who just years ago lived in the same suburban area as me, and will surely have many more leave me before I've saved up enough.

What happens if I don't? Well, I recently read a story on Venezuelans fleeing to Curazao by boat. We've truly become the XXL version of Cuba. Chavez must be dancing in his grave.

Alas, enough with the victimizing. I'll see you all in another post!

Steem on!
