Did you bring the candles?

Some months ago plenty of people, me included, where breathing in relief as it was announced that the phenomenon called El Niño had come and passed without much to show for.

Apagones!

I felt relief not only because getting flooded again, was now an impossibility, but also because I could rest assured that the nervous explanation I had to give my wife, the one where I explain to her why it’s better for us here, did not have to include torrential flood apologetics.

All that being said, it seems like some flooding was necessary for the infrastructure of this tiny country that witnessed my birth more than four decades ago.

It may be a surprise to you, my dear reader, that there would be a country out there, in this vast yet small world that hat has little to nothing in terms of plan b or c for power generation. As a matter of fact, it barely has a plan a, since the hydroelectric plants are working poorly to begin with.

The rivers are dry, the people are angry and we are being told by the authorities that love to speak to us from pulpits that we need to have a good stash of candles and a good whistle for safety.

I wish I could tell you the latter was a joke I’ve come up with because I simply could not wait to be a little snarky and witty on this blog of mine, but you would be incorrecto my friend-o.

Yes, it seems like we might be facing a full year of power outages, and I for one need to be, for the first time, one of those people that attempts to find opportunity, instead of dwelling on the tragedy of it all.

Maybe, this is time to start a Solar hustle round'ere ya know. I mean, it's going to be needed, and somebody is bound to eat the cake if I don't take a slice, so might as well be me.

And all that being said and laid out, I'm struggling to be too optimistic, but I'm trying mega hard to remain so.
