It’s Game Over Maaaaaaaaaan

GDC has finally come to a close, and just as quickly as they filled the streets of San Francisco, members of the gaming industry from all over the world will soon be returning to their creative spaces to usher in the next level of gaming architecture for us all to enjoy.

We’ve seen amazing advances over the years in VR, AR, and cloud computing solutions that have the capacity to scale upwards to allow for high resolution realtime delivery of games simultaneously to players as well as streaming services by making use of data-centers to manage game resources. The next generation of consoles may indeed see us utilizing account based credentials to access a cloud of games that manage our identities, which leaves many questions and blurs the lines between resource ownership.

For the old schoolers out there, a renaissance of retro-gaming has seen a relative resurgence in this day and age. As we seek to recapture those blissful childhood moments spent mashing buttons our demand for nostalgia has fed a massive movement by independent gaming studios who embrace cartridges, 8 bit graphics, and storytelling driven game mechanics. Once constrained by hardware, the developers of today are relatively free to explore their ideas and bring to the table one of a kind experiences.

How we game is changing. The use of virtual and augmented reality systems is bringing forth a wave of change as controllers must conform to meet the demands of a changing ecosystem. Alongside this the brightest and most unique of are always trying to find new and amusing ways to do things. As we embrace new ways to encounter digital worlds controllers are sure to evolve and will likely come to more closely represent their digital facsimiles.

As for blockchain based developments, pixEOS stands to step up the game for digital assets when it comes to the gaming world. As pixEOS continues to pioneer the architecture of non-fungible tokens on the EOS blockchain, we expect to see a wave of adoption from game developers who want to integrated provably scarce digital objects backed by NFT tokens in their games. It’s a bright future ahead.

Our interconnected world continues to change. We have games to thank, to help keep us happy, sane, and well adjusted. Each experience we enjoy gaming was crafted by a team of pros who painstakingly helped bring something new and amazing into the world. It is these dedicated members of the tech world that we have to thank for every game out there, and this year at GDC the promise of technology is truly palpable.

I cant wait until these pros converge upon the same place again next year to reveal their future breakthroughs.
