I did it.
I used AI to write this post. And I’m sorry that I’m not sorry. The Hive Watchers can come in their dashing superhero capes now and take me away.
I won’t resist.
I won’t put up a fight.
I’ll go willingly …
back to the sake store, that is.
So here’s the deal
Imagine you live in Napa Valley in California or the Rhone Valley in France, and you know nothing about wine. Imagine that, less than a ten minute walk from your house, there is a wine store that offers $1.00 tastings of almost 100 different bottles of local award winning wines.
Where would you begin?
I know, some of you would start in one corner of the store and work your way around the room, one wine at a time until you either passed out drunk or completed the challenge before you.
But that’s not what I did.
I chose what I consider the fun and intriguing route.
You see, I live in what some people consider the sake heaven of Japan. And not far from my house is a store that offers almost 100 different varieties of local sake in a wall of vending machines, most of which only cost ¥100 per drink.
Recently, when I finally decided to enter this place and see what it was all about, I was shown to an AI powered tablet that asked me an intriguing question: How do you like to feel when drinking sake?
This is something that I had never really considered before, but given that I’ve been feeling a bit old as of late, I chose to answer nostalgic.
I know, a bit dull right. The Hive Watchers can crucify me for that, too.
A second question
I thought I was finished. I thought I was on my way to drinking sake, but that wasn’t the case.
Next, I was asked a second question, What do you imagine from nostalgic, the lighthouse at dusk, a warm atmosphere, autumn leaves dancing in rice fields, the sound of water flowing onto the veranda?
Huh? I thought. Autumn leaves dancing in rice fields? The sound of water flowing onto the veranda? A warm atmosphere?
Is this nostalgic for anyone?
Obviously, the only real option was the lighthouse at dusk. Am I right?
I mean, who doesn’t have fond memories of spending romantic summer evenings by a picturesque lighthouse?
Next
Would there be another question? I was curious, and also a little worried.
Fortunately, there wasn’t. After only two questions, I was on my way to the recommendations.
What, I wondered, would this evil AI send my way?
Well, the answer is, I don’t know. I couldn’t read the label.
But with the power of my photographic memory, and a little help from my cell phone camera, I was able to find the same kanji written on the wall and fill my cup.
So how did it taste?
Exactly like you would expect, a dry, slightly peppery but nostalgic lighthouse at dusk.
In other words, fantastic!
