Choosing a Pig: The Safe, the Risky and the Ideal Option for Battle

In Piggericks, there are three types of witty decisions to make:

  1. Which pigs to take to battle
  2. Which pigs to actually toss
  3. When to bank your score

The answer to the first question seems simple - good pigs of course! While this is not entirely wrong, we talked about why it’s actually a smart idea to bring crappy pigs to the battle before.

But we noticed: Many players don’t actually know what a good pig is. So let’s do a deep dive on this one.

In our latest video, we show you some examples of good pigs. (By the way, we added closed captions to all our YouTube content to make it more accessible for everyone.)

In this article instead, we want to give you a quick overview of what matters most when choosing a good pig.

The first thing to look at is the skill of your pig, the second its appearance bar, but beware! Sometimes a pig with crappy overall stats may actually be better. Always look at your pigs individual attributes. You can see those by hovering over the eye symbol next to the appearance bar.

The bar of each attribute indicates how good a specific attribute is for any particular pig. On How to Play you’ll see details on the Best and Worst Performer. All values in between are on a sliding scale. What’s important here is that the difference between a good and a bad belly is 6% versus the difference between a good and a bad ear for example is only 2%. What this means is that the attributes for the pig's belly have the biggest impact on your toss.

So, what does a good pig look like?

The Save Pig to choose is always a pig with high belly values, regardless of all the other attributes. It may not score very high in a single toss but you will reduce the risk of those dreaded Pig Outs. And every Slider helps.

On the other hand, the Risky Pig is a pig with very high values on the nose and ears because there’s a better chance to reach the really high scores and maybe even a Piggericks. Make sure to bank amazing tosses, because the very next throw might just be a Pig Out!

If you are not one for extremes, the Ideal Pig for you is most likely a piggy soldier with a high (though maybe not the highest) bar for the nose and the ears, and at least a mediocre bar for both bellies.

Last but not least, a good piggy is really only ever as good as its partner. Make sure to pair up pigs that are similar. Teaming up a Safe Pig with a Risky Pig is not gonna do you any good. Also, keep an eye on the symmetry. While this is not the most important of all values, if a pig is way more likely to land on one instead of the other side of its belly, let it march to battle with a companion that is asymmetrical in the same way.

Which of the three options is your favorite pig and why?
