Still in August, after visiting the Rohne's Dairy, we drove around Brownsmead a bit more - seeing familiar sites and places I'd always wanted to see (what was down that road...)
This building is called a grange. They are community buildings where you can host a great variety of activities from dances and parties to fundraiser dinners (often called a "feed") to graduation receptions. My preschool was held at this one - the Brownsmead Grange. (My mother used to go square dancing at another local grange.)
More of the scenery around Brownsmead. It's easy to see why I regularly get homesick for this beautiful place!
This little angus calf was curious about who was taking his picture...
I used this beautiful spot along one of the sloughs to experiment with which way I liked better - focused on the grass in the foreground or on the water in the background... the focus on the grass won.
Two more shots along the slough.
Generally speaking, the roads are on the dikes along the sloughs. I don't know how much of the land was reclaimed in this fashion - or whether most of it was tidal before the building began. It's awesome to think that some of my ancestors may have been involved in this engineering project.
Photos taken by myself in August 2019 with my Pentax K30.
