As Thanksgiving ends, we head boldly into the Christmas season. As such, we attended a local gingerbread house competition featured at our city mall.
We start with some absolute classics, including this Victorian look with its fancy icing (one of my favorites.)
Everyone loves a classic! Big or small, they make the Christmas lover smile. We cover them in peppermints, shingle their roofs with Chex, and decorate them with little candies and pieces of fondant. We might even frost them with a little powdered sugar snow.
Sometimes they'll be two stories, held up with candy cane columns.
This ambitious cathedral had spires, and on the back, three panes of sugar stained glass windows that make up the Holy Family.
I loved this little nod to the movie "White Christmas" -- a personal favorite of mine my whole life.
We loved this little gingerbread covered bridge, complete with a little horse-drawn sleigh and fondant riders.
And definitely a winner was this gingerbread building with a hidden secret in the back -- a scene from the classic Christmas ballet, "The Nutcracker."
