It’s late, Steemit. I’m exhausted, sore, sleepy and a little cranky. This was a long day, but as I’ve said in previous posts, I don’t feel the same sense of accomplishment for my day if it involves going to sleep without making a post. This one, however, I’m warning you isn’t going to have the length of my usual blogs. There’s is a plus side, though. I’m sharing work here first, less than 12 hours since the photo was made. That’s worth a vote, right?
I shot today with artist, musician and Steemian, @jezebel. I met @jezebel years ago when she opened for one of my favorite bands, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, at First Ave and 7th St Entry in downtown Minneapolis. She immediately made a fan in me, as her unique voice, twang and presence had a distinct folk/country vibe that encompassed my musical taste for the last five or so years. I was there to photography SCAC, but I shot a few images of @jezebel’s set. I found her artist page online, send the photos along, eventually became good friends.
She’s eventually moved away from the Twin Cities, but we stayed in touch through social media. She made her way through Austin and the Northwest US, working a straight job and performing, but found herself back in Minneapolis some years later. We reconnected, and she’d evolved in to a more serious, darker artist with influence on the misplaced stigma associated with death. She emerged with a new project called Bye Bye Banshee. She gifted me a USB EP of the new music and it absolutely moved me. She approached me about shooting the imagery for the album and I jumped at the opportunity.
Today, we shot for hours in 50º temperatures through hours of pouring rain to make the photo I’m sharing tonight. It was a journey through Rosemount, MN and a collective effort of Sica Dawn of The Fox Den Salon and sheer willpower for the two of us, to push through and create lasting, meaningful art. Thankfully, I’m happy to say, we did. Here’s the first edit from today’s shoot with @jezebel for the upcoming Bye Bye Banshee EP release. Enjoy, and good…fucking….night!
