Some time ago I had the opportunity to photograph pictures of this sculpture which depicts the patrician Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix or Sulla for short who was considered a powerful ruler in ancient Rome and he ensured that the Senate in the Roman Empire took on an important role by invading Rome and defeating its opponents. He also belonged to the party of the Optimates who were known for their aristocratic thought and arose from different parts of the nobility and Sulla was at that time a huge opponent of the ruler Gaius Marius who belonged to the opposite party of the Populares which also arose from the nobility but was completely different from the political view and while the Optimates welcomed the rule of the Senate, the opposite party rather turned away from it and promoted more the views of the people. After Sulla ended the supremacy of Gaius Marius and ensured that he even had to flee, the Populares also lost more and more power and Sulla ensured that the Senate came to great power again, but there were conflicts in the following years and the Populares tried again with all methods to regain their rule and there were strong conflicts in which many people lost their lives. There were numerous uprisings and the Roman Empire was overthrown during these times in various crises, which had the consequence that the morale of the population was in a bad state and at the end of these conflicts, Sulla should be the winner and ensure that he was appointed in the year 82 BC. He can generally be described as a ruler who controlled the consent of the people through fear and he was also considered extremely feared by his opponents and was also known for his strategic leadership from a military point of view and for him the Senate had the highest priority and he ensured that new seats were created at the political level and the Senate was constantly expanded and more and more people came into certain positions within the Senate. Even though Sulla was considered a feared ruler, he was very loyal to his own comrades and ensured that they received ever-increasing prosperity and later he withdrew from the rule and resigned his office as a dictator and later after his death some of his measures were lifted again and in the following years it came to new disputes at the political level.
