Wat Xiengthong - ວັດຊຽງທອງ

Wat Xiengthong, situated between the mighty Mekong river and the river Nam Khan felt like one of the most important temples in the old part of Luang Prabang in Laos. I was there just under a year ago for the end of Buddhist lent at the beginning of October. I had been a few years before that but I didn't have the right camera gear and I wasn't as committed to photography as I am now. The end of lent signals the end of the rainy season in mainland Southeast Asia and is marked with a number of events including boat racing on the Mekong, building beautiful ceremonial boats adorned with candles and prayers (both physical and spiritual) paraded down to be set on the river and certainly a healthy serving of sticky rice, rice whiskey, papaya salad and an abundance of laughter with friends and family. Laos is dope, go check it out.
