Wireless connection to a video projector

1. Introduction:
The operation consists in displaying on a video projector the screen of a tablet or smartphone using a wireless connection. The video projector does not have the WiFi option. For this, we will describe how to proceed using Miracast technology.

Miracast is a technology that your tablet can use to project your screen onto TVs, projectors, and streaming media players that support Miracast. This allows you to share your work, present a slideshow or view a video on a larger screen.

Advantages :

The user avoids the need to connect the tablet with a cable to the video projector to broadcast the content;
Mobility is maintained, the movement is possible within the coverage area;
Miracast technology can be used with any projector (or TV) video that has a USB port and an HDMI jack ;
A "reasonable" cost compared to other solutions (WiFi VP, Wi-Fi dongle VP manufacturers).
Constraints:

Requires Windows 8.1, 8.1 RT, 10 and a compatible tablet or computer ( see point 2 );
Requires Windows Phone 8.1 for use with a smartphone that itself must be compatible (Lumia / Microsoft from the 6xx series, model "30" or newer);
Compatible with Android 4.2.1 minimum;
If the projection device does not support Miracast technology, an adapter is required

2. Project on a wireless screen with Miracast:
All operations described below are performed with a Windows 8.1 tablet and a portable video projector. The video projector, most often and unlike some recent TVs, does not natively support Miracast technology. The use of a specific adapter is necessary.

Check the compatibility of its material:
The tablet or the computer:
From Windows 8.1, swipe from the right edge of the screen, and then tap "Devices." (If you are using a mouse, point to the bottom right of the screen, move the pointer up, and click "Devices").
Tap or click "Project". If the "Add a wireless display" option is available, your tablet or PC supports Miracast.
The smartphone:
Make sure the WiFi function is enabled.

In your smartphone settings, select "Project your screen". Choose the wireless screen from the list of found devices, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
A message informs you if your phone can not project your screen with a wireless connection.

The wireless adapter:
The Microsoft Wireless adapter to connect to the video projector jacks. The USB socket is used to electrically power the adapter (it is also possible to power the adapter via an external battery). The picture and sound are transmitted to the adapter. The sound can be amplified by connecting amplified speakers to the audio output of the VP. Link to the Microsoft site.

The adapter allows the tablet or PC to communicate wirelessly with the display device. Communication is established directly between the tablet and the adapter.
Several manufacturers offer Miracast adapters, (the Microsoft adapter test gives complete satisfaction). For other adapters, follow the manufacturer's instructions for connecting the adapter and doing your own testing.
Microsoft offers on Windows Store a free application that allows:

Fine-tune the screen setting of the tablet that is displayed on the device with precision for a perfect match between the two;
Update the firmware of the adapter.
Where to find the Microsoft wireless adapter: available on the internet or available in the stores of some major retailers.
The video projector:

Locate the two HDMI and USB jacks on the video projector.

Some recommendations for choosing a VP:

LED lamp preferably (longevity, no waiting time when stopped);
WXGA display (widescreen or widescreen, resolution of 1280x800 minimum, the greater the cost of VP increases significantly);
Brightness: 500 ANSI is a minimum for parts without occultation;
Connections:
a USB socket;
an HDMI jack;
an audio output (to amplify the sound) represented by a small headphone;
Some VPs can display "Office" files, video (DivX), images (Jpeg) and listen to audio files (mp3) stored on a USB stick connected via the USB jack of the VP.

3. Connect the tablet to the video projector:
Prepare the video projector:

Connect the wireless adapter to the video projector as shown in the photo opposite.
A few seconds after turning on the VP, a small white light on the adapter lights up.

Selection of the appropriate source in the VP menu.
Select HDMI.

Add the screen can wire to your tablet during a first use:

When your tablet and your VP are ready for projection, you need to add the wireless screen to your PC. Both devices must be within the range of each other (less than 10 meters).

Swipe from the right edge of the tablet screen, and then tap Devices;
Tap or click Project, and then click Add Wireless Display;
Choose the wireless screen from the list of found devices, and then follow the instructions on the screen.

Project your screen on a wireless screen:
After adding the wireless screen to your tablet, you can project its screen to the wireless device.

To project your screen:

Swipe from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Devices;
Tap or click Project, and then tap the wireless screen of your choice.

To choose the elements to display on each screen:

Swipe from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Devices;
Tap or click Project, and then choose one of the following options:
a) PC screen only. Everything will be displayed on your tablet (when you are connected to a wireless device, this option becomes Disconnect);
b) Duplicate. The display is the same on both screens. This is the most interesting display mode with a tablet ;
c) Extend. Your screen spans both monitors, and you can drag and drop items in between, inconvenient with a tablet ;
d) Second screen only. Everything will be displayed on the connected screen. Your other screen will not show anything.

Once the connection is established, the screen of the tablet is duplicated and displayed by the VP on the projection screen.

Disconnecting the wireless device:

If you move your tablet out of range of the wireless screen (for example, into another room) or if your tablet goes into sleep or hibernation mode, both devices will be disconnected. You can also disconnect the wireless screen manually:

Swipe from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Devices;
Tap Project, and then tap Disconnect.

4. Download the "Microsoft Wireless Adapter" application on the Windows Store:
Search on the Store of the application "Microsoft Wireless Adapter".
Its use is essential for a good adjustment of the image on the wireless device.

The interface of the application after installation from the Store. It allows, among other things, to set the display of the screen on the wireless device to see the entire content (access is protected by a password to be chosen by the user at the first use).
