Open Mic Week 74 - Meno - Top 5 Picks and Honorable Mentions

What an exciting week my friends, more and more talented people keep on pouring in and here I am trying to keep up, trying to decide who Is my new favorite musician to follow. The growth of this contest, of this platform is something unstoppable.

It's almost 4am my time, can't seem to finish the list, way too many favorites and not enough time in a week. I've been listening to entries for 3 days now, and my top 28 picks for since yesterday trying to make up my mind. So here it goes.

First Place

@paintingangels - Original Song Moon Hanging Low

One of the highlights of my week I have to say, finding this tiny account that had not had too much activity for a while put this out there for us to listen it feels like finding a lotto ticket to me. I've been told more than once that I tend to gravitate to songs that make me cry. I have no intention of ever correcting such assertion, to me a song has to allow me to see into someone's soul, if only for a second.

The lyrics of this song are just beautiful, the melancholy, the hope to return to more simpler, happier days drawn out in a beautiful metaphor. I'm in love with this song, I've been listening to it for days now and I have no intention of stopping any time soon.

Second Place

@tomashofficial - Neither Here Nor There (Original)

Why is this song not being played on the radio? I will tell you why... Because mainstream radio has absolutely no clue what quality songwriting is all about. This song is just a treat to my ears, brilliant lyrics, excellent guitar work and a delivery that needs absolutely nothing added.

In my view if this song is ever produced it needs absolutely nothing than the guitar and the voice, adding anything to it would be heresy of the highest kind. Absolutely brilliant.

Third Place

@nathankaye Nathan Kaye - Lucky Man story (original)

I have to admit Nathan is the definition of a show man, I've been so entertained by his entry this is the third time playing it today for me, and its 7 minutes long. Aside from the pyrotechnics and the musical somersaults, what I love about Nathan is his ability to transmit emotion, I felt as if I was there, as I saw it too and I'm just watching him tell the story to my friend who did not see these events.

You have to treat yourself and feast your eyes and ears with his performance. I would suggest to not be drinking while you do, specially around minute six. I spat my drink out the first time, it was just hilarious!!

Fourth Place

@melissakellie Original Song - One last day

So I guess loving this song reveals the fact that I'm still a romantic guy. So What? I freaking loved it, the lyrics are beautiful and honestly gave me goosebumps more than once. What is even better for me is that @melissakellie is the new talent on the block, not even a full week in and she delivers this!!!

Imagine the music we are yet to hear from her in the months to come, and that voice!!! You just have to listen to it. It sounds as if this belongs on a movie. Wait, is this song on a movie already?

Fifth Place

@chaifm Original song When I go

I was beginning to wonder when it would be the next time I got to hear the sweet voice of this lovely lady. The talented @chaifm has been part of the open mic since before I even joined the platform, and it's no surprise to see her on any top lists to anyone. This a powerful song about stripping ourselves from who we are not, leaving all the weight behind and trying to find ourselves again. I not only related to it, I felt it as mine.

Thank you for writing this @chaifm , I'm so happy to see you are back. <3

This is it my friends, week 74 has come to and end and we have started a new. No rest for the musos as the saying goes (or maybe I'm confused with something else). In any case, week 74 was absolutely fantastic, lots of amazing music, amazing performances and unforgettable moments. I was just thinking how this week the ladies seem to have stepped it up, and how much I'm enjoying this trend.

I'm going to finish up this post before my body gives up on me, it's way too late for me to think about anything anymore. Before you leave though, I wanted to thank you for stopping by and supporting this amazing musicians. I wanted to let you know that I take none of you for granted and I love and appreciate you all.

Ok, now for serious and for realz...

Good night..
