MOSCOW - Russia test fired Iskander-M advanced ballistic missiles in Kapustin Yar, Astrakhan, southern Russia. The local Defense Ministry on Monday (5/3/2018) claimed a successful missile test.
According to the ministry, the missile launch is 100 km more than the target. The target was successfully hit with such high-precision missiles.
"The firing is the stage of completing a tactical exercise aimed at training the West Military District missile unit with the new Iskander-M missile system," the ministry said in a statement.
The trial took place on Friday. "Everything is alright. The missile has found its target, "said a commander who oversaw the trial, as reported by Russia Today.
The modern Iskander missile platform, currently used by the Russian Army, comes in two variants, Iskander-M missile ballistic missiles and Iskander-K missiles.
The Iskander-M missile, used during the exercise, is claimed to be capable of performing high-precision attacks at distances up to 500 kilometers. This weapon system is designed to replace the aging Tochka-U tactical missiles.
Iskander missiles have been known for conventional explosive warheads. However, the truth can also be equipped with nuclear warheads
