(ANTIMEDIA) — In the latest negative press to hit fast food giant McDonald’s, a franchise location in Canada accidentally served a pregnant woman a latte containing cleaning fluid.
Sarah Douglas, of Lethbridge, Alberta, said she could tell something was off with her drink after she took her first sip. “My tongue felt fuzzy and my mouth felt almost numb,” she told Canada’s CTV. She went back to the restaurant, where employees identified the problem.
In a statement to Buzzfeed, franchise owner Dan Brown said:
“What happened is that the machine was being cleaned — as it is every morning. Unfortunately, the milk supply line was connected to the cleaning solution while this guest’s drink was made.”
Douglas hasn’t suffered any symptoms and simply wants to ensure others won’t ingest chemicals at their local McDonald’s. “My fear is that a child could have been a victim to such a preventable mistake, and I’m just glad it has come to this so that we can make people aware and, hopefully, make a change for the better,” she said.
Alberta’s Health Services is investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, in the United States, McDonald’s has been the focal point of a parasitic outbreak that has affected nearly 200 people in the state of Illinois alone. Tainted lettuce has led the chain to pull their salads from over 3,000 locations across 14 states, replacing them with a different supplier.
Though fast food companies are hardly known for being healthy, the monolith might do well to ensure fecal bacteria and chemical cleaning agents are not poisoning their patrons.
