BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:35 A.M.) - 'A group of experts from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons completed its work, checking information on the alleged chemical attack' in the Syrian city of Douma, Russian Ministry of Defence Chief Spokesperson Igor Konashenkov said in a briefing in Moscow on Friday.
“Officers of the Russian Centre for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties and military police ensured the preservation and safety of all items and places where alleged chemical substances were discovered,” he said.
Konashenkov added: “The inspectors were given full and unhindered access to all areas, buildings and premises that interested them, where they worked as long as they needed.”
“OPCW experts visited two apartments for the alleged use of poisonous substances, where they took the necessary samples, as well as a terrorist laboratory and a chemical storehouse,” the spokesperson said.
In addition, the inspectors visited the city hospital of Douma, “interviewed local residents and participants in video produced by members of the White Helmets organisation.”
On April 26, Konashenkov said: “The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation provided irrefutable facts indicating the staged nature of the evidence distributed by the White Helmets” at the headquarters of the OPCW in The Hague.
In that regard, it is possible that the staged evidence caused the US to stop financing the White Helmets because the results of these “scammers do not correspond to the level of financial investments,” Konashenkov stated.
A chemical attack allegedly took place in the city of Douma on April 7. The West accused Syrian government forces of using chemical weapons and retaliated with a missile attack on April 14th.
