Iceplant - non-native and invasive but unfortunately common California ground cover

IMG_1235.JPG
Iceplant is coastal succulent shrub native to South Africa. It was introduced in California by the railroads and Caltran (California Department of Transportion) in the early 1900s. Initially used to prevent erosion and stabilize roadsides, iceplant has become invasive and its use in now discouraged.
