Ocean Era of Hawaii envisions installing an underwater net pen about 45 miles southwest of Sarasota. The project, called Velella Epsilon, could produce 20,000 almaco jack, a fish similar to amberjack, each year.
Interesting article about the ongoing debate on whether to allow fishing farming in the Gulf or not. I for one am all for it, let's try it on a limited basis and see what happens. Fishing farming could offset losses that the inshore commercial fisherman are going to see from fresh water diversions, which are badly needed to save the coast from erosion. Sadly, the lawyers will probably tie this up for years though......
