Auroras are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the Earth's atmosphere.
These lights are seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres. They are called 'Aurora borealis' in the north and 'Aurora austral' in the south
They are a beautiful show that nature offers, unfortunately it can not be seen all over the world
