On Tuesday I went into get a new release at Waterloo Records, re:member by Ólafur Arnalds. Waterloo is the largest record store in Austin and the only place carrying Ólafur's latest release. When checking out I noticed this little chart for the first time. They list their top 50 sales for the week. It gives you a pulse on what the people of the city are buying and listening to. The names in bold are local musicians.
The top three of the list is Mitski (27), Death Cab for Cutie (25), and Nakia (18)(Austin). I have no idea who Mitski. Sounds like I'll have to check her out. Blaze Foley has a few spots energized by Ethan Hawke's film Blaze.
It's doubtful Ólafur will make it on there as he only has 4 records in the whole store but a friend and I did buy two. So he's half way there!
