Sublime -The SoCal Band That Reinvented Reggae

Sublime is my very favorite band. This band literally changed my life. Sublime is more than just a band with good music, it's a lifestyle if you will. It's a subculture in and of itself...ask any true Sublime fan and they will tell you the same! Sublime was an American ska punk band from Long Beach, California that formed in 1988.Sublime’s best asset was the frontman, Bradley Nowell. This was because of his awesome voice, talented songwriting, and his ability to give reggae and punk songs a fresh makeover.

Critics sometimes ignore Sublime citing their watered-down white-boy reggae is unpalatable for people with a deep respect for the Reggae genre. However, Bradley and his band meant to honor the music that clearly meant so much to them. The result was creating a legacy and influencing the start of a new genre of music that spawned popular bands today like Pepper, The Dirty Heads and Slightly Stoopid, to name just a few.

Bradley died in 1996 from a heroin overdose, two months before the band would experience major commercial success with their self-titled third album. It peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the single "What I Got", which remains the band's only No. 1 hit single (on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart) in their musical career.

A few years ago I stumbled across something really cool that has been compiled by Sublime fans worldwide! The Rewind Selector is a collection of Sublime's influences, presented to be entertaining, as well as clear as possible for Sublime fans to hear and appreciate some of the same artists that Sublime grew to love and incorporate into their sound. This is done by mix-mashing the original track with Sublime's version; sometimes live, sometimes in studio, but always fully tilted.
