Professionally, he acted as a guitarist with several renowned artists such as Clara Nunes, Beth Carvalho, Alaíde Costa, João Nogueira and Cartola. In addition to a composer, Guinga graduated in Dentistry in 1975.
He had several of his songs recorded by names such as Elis Regina, Cauby Peixoto, Michel Legrand, Sérgio Mendes, Chico Buarque, Ivan Lins, Leila Pinheiro, Ronnie Von, among others. In the album, Catavento and Girassol, recorded by the singer Leila Pinheiro, the fourteen songs are of its authorship. As partners are Paulo César Pinheiro, Aldir Blanc, and Chico Buarque.
Guinga has ten recorded records, all well received by specialized critics. His album "Cheios de Dedos" received the Sharp award for Best Instrumental Album of 1996. In 2002, his biography, "Ginga, the most beautiful chords of the suburb", written by journalist Mário Marques was published by Editora Gryphus.
