About six years ago i was more then pleasantly surprised with the HINTERLAND release from RECONDITE on Ghostly records.
HINTERLAND was the 2nd LongPlay release from recondite. It was a lot different, even more minimalistic then it’s predecessor ‘On Acid’ (which is also a piece of music that is worth a long, long listen to .... but that’s another story)
Hinterland was an album full with melancholic dreamy ambient like textured minimalistic techno music, an album that was packed with emotion, and therefore unique in each and every way.
HINTERLAND was an album that you could listen, dance or fall asleep to, whatever your mood was. The only thing that i do not recommend is to listen to it on long nightly car rides on the autobahn, it’s just to relaxing.
Hinterland was also the start of a very nice career for Lorenz Brunner, the producer behind recondite. Since then he is touring the world, and he releases on several different labels.
“With his second longplayer Hinterland, released in 2013 on the US label Ghostly International, Recondite became a worldwide-booked live act. Since then he has constantly been seen on stages in Europe, America, Asia and Australia. Among other shows, he performed live between Sven Väth and Richie Hawtin on the Time Warp Festival 2014.[7] In the very same year he became a Resident-DJ of Richie Hawtin's ENTER.Ibiza 2014. Recondite does major events such as Melt!, Amsterdam Dance Event and Time Warp just as club shows in smaller and mid-sized venues with correspondingly more intimate atmosphere.”
Flash Forward to late 2019
After releasing 5 full albums, and many EP’s, i dare to say that HINTERLAND HAS STOOD THE TEST OF TIME, Since this release. Lorenz has made an international career with recondite that a lot of people only dream off, but yet, for Lorenz, the HINTERLAND album cast a shadow of pressure that widened over time.
As with most art forms, perhaps especially music, there is an expectation to change, to creatively pivot elsewhere with each project.
After careful consideration, Brunner rejects this notion with his new work, opting alternately to use the icy Hinterland as an aesthetic and tonal template for a like-minded map of evocative compositions aptly titled after the German word “stillstand,” now presented as Dwell.
Dwell will be the 6th LongPlay release of RECONDITE and it also marks the return of RECONDITE to ghostly records,
and after i just had the pleasure of a pre release listening session, i can say that this album (finally) continues where HINTERLAND stopped. This is the RECONDITE that i love to listen to!
In an era where constant reinvention and highly self-reflexive brand awareness reigns supreme in the music industry, Brunner as Recondite does something many artists try to avoid, he dwells in his own established identity, one that has garnered him a devoted fanbase.
His murky electronic productions, built around mirage-like pads and clipped drum programming, have proven to be highly functional and spectrally enveloping;
Dwell is not a return to form, it is a further study of the shapes, it is the modes, and the structures Brunner has trademarked.
The Album consists of 8 tracks, 2 interludes and a bonus track. And i do not want to sound like the fanboy i am, but each track is a piece of art. On the interludes you can even hear some hip hop influenced beats and production techniques.
DWELL is just like HINTERLAND (and On Acid) an album that will stand the test of time, and that will not bore you after a thousand listens. The minimalistic approach with the ambient pads and the many field recordings make you hear something different each time ...
For now, the Cure song that i linked above is the only song from the dwell album that you can find online, but trust me, this album is really worth a pre-order
And until then .... we dwell back into the past with this beautiful piece from the On Acid release

if you like my little musical posts, try to support the artists with buying their music or merchandise. Most artists, especially the indies and the ones not touring can not survive on just an income of streaming royalties alone. Music is an art form, not just a throw away, dime a dozen consumer product. Each track released takes a little but of the hart and souls of the creators with them .... furthermore small donations in steem, sats or bnb would help me a lot with developing my own art .... thank you
