For my two cents: The 2D characters were such simple archetypes and predictable enough to call them 1D. For example, the love story. This aspect would have been immeasurably improved had the boy thrown up all over the girl due to the butterflies in his stomach. This would have been no less stupid than what we got.
When not predictable, as @jamethiel mentioned, you get the WTF moments. Someone should tell the writers that a character acting unbelievably stupid or irrational is not a plot twist.
