The 5 seconds rule

The 5 seconds rule by the author, Mel Robbins, is the key to break the habit of procrastination. Procrastination is a stress mechanism that all or us human use to avoid stress. It forms the perfect excuse to avoid doing tasks that we think it is a stress. It makes you feel better as the stress is avoided and it then becomes a habit over time. That provides a powerful way for excuses to take over the real needs/reasons to carry out tasks.

This can be overcome by developing self-awareness about why we procrastinate. It starts with being honest about procrastination and acknowledge the stress from carrying the tasks. Next, confront the stress by performing the tasks within 5 seconds. This is done by making decision of courage and take action within 5 seconds. All we need to do is to leave the thinking process behind, take immediate action to perform. This stops the brain from thinking and giving excuses to procrastinate.

So if you are reading this now, try it out to test the theory. NO! You do not have to think, just act on it with courage. It can be making a phone call, start reading a new book, or anything. So what are you waiting for?! Act now, 5,4,3,2,1. Just do it!
