The Jays keep on rolling in the post-Stroman/Sanchez era. They haven’t lost a series in their last five, going 11-5 over that stretch, and will have a chance of continuing that streak starting this Friday when the Jays host the Seattle Mariners in the first of a three-game set. On Monday, Toronto set a season-high by scoring 19 runs during a 19-4 drubbing of the Texas Rangers and went on to win yet another series against a team that fans still remember from an epic ALDS showdown in 2015. That’s all history now, and the present Jays are showing some promise of reaching those fantastic heights in the not-too-distant future.
The opener may be on full display in this matchup between the Mariners and the Jays. The Mariners are giving the ball to Matt Wisler, who has opened four times for the M’s since being acquired from the Padres earlier this summer. Wisler has given up just two hits, while striking out five in the six innings that he’s worked as an opener.
For the Jays, Jacob Waguespack is expected to get the ball. Wilmer Font opened Waguespack’s previously-scheduled start against the Yankees on August 10, so it’s possible we could see the same combination this Friday. Game time is set for 7:07 PM ET.
MLB Odds: Jays Look to Continue Winnings Ways Versus M’s
The Toronto Blue Jays will attempt to extend their post-trade deadline winning record when they welcome the lowly Seattle Mariners to town this Friday. The young Jays are fully embracing their new roles as leaders on the team, and have shown that they can win while developing at the Big-League level, going 11-5 over their previous 16 games.
Jacob Waguespack is working to establish himself as a regular starter for Toronto, and he’ll take the ball for the Jays on Friday. Seattle will counter with opener Matt Wisler, who’s assumed the role for the Mariners after a number of strong opening outings. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM ET.
