My Quora Answer to
"Is it okay to faint in the second trimester of pregnancy?"
It is NEVER “okay” to faint at all. You run the risk of hurting two people, maybe more, when you faint: yourself and the baby.
Please see your Obstetrician. There are many causes of syncope (fainting) and your doc will help sort them out for you. I will not diagnose over the internet, but consider these causes:
Orthostatic Hypotension, or a too rapid drop in blood pressure when standing up from a sitting position. Often caused by dehydration.
Neurologic causes such as the sight of blood, and even thinking about blood. This commonly occurs during a blood draw before the needle is even inserted.
Heart-related causes such as arrhythmias, faulty heart valves, and blood clots in major vessels. An associated cause is when a thrombus (blood clot) breaks off and goes to your lungs (Pulmonary Embolism).
Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). We've all experienced symptoms of impending syncope and the first response is typically to sit or lay down. Why? Because the risk of hurting yourself, and others) is too high.
