Love and unity were the key points in the teachings of Jesus. He commanded us to love one another and pray for our unity.
Christians are commanded to love God and to love one another. God demonstrated for us when He gave His only Begotten Son to die for our sins. "Greater live hath no man than this that a man would lay down his life for his friend. John 15:14"
Love is total devotion of one's being to the LORD and HIS service. God expect our love for Him to be total. We must love God above anyone and everyone else and above everything else no matter what. Loving one another is a sign of good discipleship. Disciples of different teachers were known by their habits or some particular creed or rite, but the disciplines of Christ were to be known by the love they had for one another.
Character exhibited by anyone who shows love include humanity, kindness, patience and identifying with people in their situations. When Christians love one another, we will not try to "out do" one another or struggle for positions in our churches and various places we find ourselves in the society.
Love is a strong factor that enhances or fosters unity. When an atmosphere of love is created in a gathering, there is bound to be unity in such gathering. It is our desire to always to have the same results as the early church had in the ministry. When we practice love genuinely, we are expected to have the same results.
Conclusion
An atmosphere of love and unity is a vital ingredient for genuine fellowship. Let us live one another, for love is of God and anyone that loves is born of God and such a person is said to know God.
