When You cannot close your mouth!

As I said previously I’m dental technology student. And today we’re gonna talk about...

Occlusion

Also called bite. Occlusion means the proper relation between both upper and lower jaw when antagonist teeth bite together.

I think this is the most important thing in both job of dentist and technician. Impressions taken by a doctor and sent to labolatory are then casted by pouring plaster to the impressions. Remember, impressions must be sterilized!

Next step is to cut the plaster models properly to occlusion plane, it is a hypothetic plane which connects apex of the cusps of first molars and premolars on each side of dental arch. Then technician made wax blocks, they must have specific shape and size, by means of them dentist established the bite, and sent back to the labolatory. This is the most important part of the whole denture prosses, it depends if the denture fits in the mouth.

Here is an example of an importance of occlusion. I've done a wax-up denture for the patient but the doctor said that he wants a new wax blocks, so there must be something wrong with this bite. If anything changed with the bite I will show you a new wax-up denture. Stay tunned ! :)
