Yesterday i worked in the Port of Antwerpen ( Belgium) and because i finished early i visit the ghost town Doel
Now Doel already existed in the year 1267, so the government of Belgium can't tell that they didn't no it was there.
But somewhere in the sixties the Belgium government decided that Doel must make room for the expansion of the port of Antwerpen
And now almost 60 years later Doel is still there, only the population went from almost 2000 in the sixties back to 23 now these days
The expansion never took place, but a lot of people moved out or were bought out and leave the houses and the village that they once loved so much behind them
THE OLD GAS STATION
THIS PUMP HAVEN'T FILL UP A CAR IN OVER 50 YEARS
A NICE LOOKING HOUSE, DESERTED. AND PROBABLY WAITING ON A WRECKING BALL
THE GOVERNMENT ORDER TO PUT STEEL PLATES IN FRONT OF THE WINDOWS AND DOORS TO PREVENT PEOPLE TO GO IN
THE STREETS ARE EMTY ON WHAT ONCE LOOKS SUCH A NICE VILAGE
IN THIS HOUSE IS STILL LIVING A FAMILY
MAKES YOU WONDER WHY PEOPLE STAY
IF THE REST OF YOUR VILAGE IS LOOKING LIKE THIS
( even the birds houses are empty)
some houses are about to collapse, while others have great paintings on them
THE CHURCH IS STILL LOOKING GOOD AND YOU CAN HIRE IT FOR FUNERALS, WEDDINGS, AND BAPTISM
THE CEMETERY LOCATED NEXT TO THE CHURCH IS ALSO MAINTAINED , BUT A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT MOVED OUT TOOK THEIR LOVED ONES THAT WERE BURIED THERE AND BURIED THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE OUT OF FEAR NOT KNOWING WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WITH THE CEMETERY ONCE THE GOVERNMENT ORDER TO VANISH DOEL FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH
THE STORY IS , WHAT ONCE WAS A GREAT VILLAGE( and still could be to this very moment), IS MADE TO A GHOST TOWN BY THE GOVERNMENT
TAKE A VISIT TO DOEL TO SEE IT WITH YOUR OWN EYES
HAVE A NICE DAY
