We were strolling around a mall yesterday when we stopped by a bookstore. Scanning books one after another in search of something that might interest us. Although most of the books were interesting, only one caught my eye. The Hidden Gift written by Ian Somers. His name sounded familiar but I could not remember where I had heard it, even my friend thought the same. I soon realized that it was actually a sequel to his first book, Million Dollar Gift, after reading what was written on the back cover but I still bought it even if I didn't manage to find a copy of the prequel.

The story takes place in a world where supernatural powers exists. The main character,

Ross Bentley has supernatural gifts - he can move things with his mind – but this doesn’t stop him feeling alone and miserable when he’s cut off from family and friends in a remote farmhouse…

It made me think... if you or I would happen to have superpowers, what would it be?

I imagine one would choose the ability to fly. There would be no need to wait for taxi and no more wasted time in traffic jams. You would be able to easily escape dangerous situations! A lot of things would go faster, you would be able to save some cash, and a lot of things would become more conventional.

Just remember not to fly too close to the planes. We wouldn't want things to get... messy. If you know what I mean. Engines. Blades. Shred.

Another ability that would probably be more discreet than flying is teleportation. I mean, woah, talk about instant travel! You could be anywhere at in the world at the blink of an eye! (Or maybe a few minutes if you need to charge up). A change of scenery with a zap.

Just be careful not to accidentally teleport inside a volcano. Ouch! It would be a sizzling end for you and your teleportation journey. 'sssssssss' (Mmmmm, barbecue.)

But I guess the most popular ability would be Telekinesis, or better, Psychokinesis. Stopping bullets moments before they hit you and sending them back to the shooters; heck, why would you even be in such a situation?

Let's talk about the prospects of becoming a couch potato with the ability to open a bag of chips with your mind!

Again, be careful not to lose your cool and crush everything around you.

There are a lot more abilities you could choose from. Moreover, you may want something depending on your situation. Those who live in the North Pole or anywhere relatively cold may want Pyrokinetic abilities or anything that may control heat. Those who are always late for work or school because of all the shenanigans and rituals they do before they leave the safety of their abode, then they may want teleportation or time manipulation skills.

Anyway, as humans, we will always yearn for something that will make life easier. In fiction, we have superpowers; and in real life, we have machines and technology. These can be used for the betterment of mankind or for it’s destruction. Simple as that.

Hmm.. if I had superpowers, I want it to be time manipulation. Twenty-four hours is just too short for a day. Time is moving too fast. :D
