Since I was a child I have heard the biggest universities all over the world with good quality education are situated in the United States of America. Universities like Harvard, Stanford and Yale are named a lot. Professionals with an almost perfect academic performance and with an important job insured get graduated from those colleges I´ve made reference. So, it made me think the high school system is as expensive as studying a career in a North American college is. Winston Churchill High School and Thomas S. Wootton High School are good prospects for the thought I want to express on this blog post.
All the educational system in the United States of America is private and highly expensive?
Searching a bit using Internet, I found something called “Rocketship Education”, a public elementary and high school program which main objective is to unleash and develop the potential that children from high-poverty situation could have. Let´s get to know more about this program based on giving opportunities to those children who want to grow up educationally.
"Rocketship was founded by Preston Smith and John Danner in 2006. The organization opened its first school in San Jose, California in 2007. At its flagship school, students scored as high as Palo Alto School District students on California's state assessment, earning praise as an innovative alternative for low-income students. As a result, Rocketship expanded quickly and opened six additional charter schools in the San Jose area over the next five years. As a result of leadership restructuring in January 2013, Danner left the company and Smith was named CEO. In August 2013, Rocketship opened its first school outside of California in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2014, Rocketship expanded its network to Nashville, Tennessee. In 2015, over 400 parents organized a successful campaign to bring Rocketship to Redwood City, California. In 2016, Rocketship opened its fourth region in Washington, D.C., in 2016, where it's K-5 schools also offer preschool through a partnership with Apple Tree Institute. Several Rocketship facilities received funding from former tennis pro, Andre Agassi's Turner-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund. " fuente de cita
A big opportunity for children with limited resources situation
Most of Children living in a high-poverty situation suffer toxic stress, a phenomena that prevent their correct development to find equilibrium among emotional-social-intellectual-physical skills, which are required in a child for his growth. Toxic stress on children prevents their correct communication development, transforming into a poor way their interpersonal relations with others. I want to take advantage of this opportunity for sharing a paragraph with a really good content.
"The future of any society depends on its ability to foster the healthy development of the next generation. Extensive research on the biology of stress now shows that healthy development can be derailed by excessive or prolonged activation of stress response systems in the body and brain. Such toxic stress can have damaging effects on learning, behavior, and health across the lifespan." fuente de cita
When one compares between the opportunities of children from high-poverty situation and the ones from upper-class the difference breach is huge, besides the monetary status-quo difference they could have, the main divergence is based on the reachable resources poor children can use for accessing to good quality education, and here is when Rocketship Education gets into action, bringing profitable educational opportunities to children who are limited but have the enough hungry to learn every day and wanting to be much better people.
Here, I bring you a message from the Rocketship Education Team, very inspiring.
"At Rocketship Public Schools, we believe in the infinite possibility of human potential. And it is our responsibility and our privilege to unleash the potential inside every Rocketeer we serve. What this blog post pretend to transmit to all of you my dear readers, is about the possibility to get educational opportunities in the United States of America especially by children living in poverty and having limited access to certain resources than those from upper-classes. USA is a country of big chances for people who is looking for job and gaining new knowledge every day, maybe long decades ago was usual to hear about the American Dream, I actually don´t know too much about it but what I´m sure and can claim is that who thinks constant education is the key for success, will be a successful person.
