How do you know who God is? What is He like?

"Let us make man in our image and in our likeness and let him rule...."

When you start reading the first Book in the bible you are shown two things immediately.

These two things are present for the first six days of creation

Habitat and Inhabitant:

First 3 days: Let there be Light and what is called an expanse, (a few thousad years before Hubble, too). water and land, sky and seas, forests with trees, prairies, snowcapped mountains, melting into rivers, streams and lakes.

Next three days: Moon to rule the night with the stars for marking seasons. The sun to rule the day, birds of the air and fish of the sea and all of the wild animals, each after its own kind as part of the newly terra formed landscape.

Of course on the last day of creation, he made Man.

"He made man in his own image. In the image of God he created them. Male and female he created them."

If you look again he said, " Us and Our " So this is... How many?

More on that later.

Scripture teaches us about The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.

Jesus taught us many things. and his prayer is called "The Lords Prayer". He opens with a greeting to God.

"Our Father who art in Heaven". God is our Father and He was Jesus's Father, too.

One of the most beloved passages of scripture is John 3:16 , where Jesus taught "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

So we have Father and Son. But, where is the Spirit? (back to top)

Genesis 1:1 "In the beginnind God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was without form and was void and darkness was on the face of the deep, and the spirit of God was hovering over the waters."

This is one of the most powerful of visualizations of the Spirit of God. That of hovering over the waters.

Interestingly enough as a characterization of The Holy Spirit. the word Hovering is feminine. It is a Brooding portrayal like a hen when she is preparing to lay. Maybe you see her gathering chicks under her wings.

In the New Testament The Holy Spirit is seen ascending on Jesus when he was baptized by his kinfolk, John the baptizer.

This was at the beginning of his ministry and later, at the end of his time on earth, Jesus would be quoted to say - "Not my will, but yours be done."

God had Moses write the account of creation and he alwys writes "and God said." The Apostle John wrote in the first verses of his book, "in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning." There you have the "us and our".

Conclusion:

What does God look like? It is better to ask what is his Image. How would the camera capture and image of God.

God, by the power of His sheer will, Spoke the world into existence, while, the Sprit hovered over the waters

Will

Word

Action

You and I are the only one of his creations with a free will. We can speak that free will. We can act on that spoken will.

Made in the image of God. To rule.
